Sing to find your voice

​​Like normal singing lessons – with a twist!​ 

Have you been told “you can’t sing,” or that “you can’t improve?” Find your own voice in this safe and empowering environment. In these workshops, you will explore practical tools and methods for overcoming mental and vocal obstacles. You will: 

• Improve your singing 
• Learn to use your voice to express yourself 
• Find confidence to speak up on issues that matter to you 
• Gain courage to join activities and /or communities 

The course is taught by Ioanna Tzanakaki, who was born and raised in Greece, where she worked as a classical singer. She moved to Finland 10 years ago. Now she is a voice coach, as well as a social services, mental health and well-being professional.

The classes will be conducted in English, but if you need individual guidance in Finnish or Greek, that is also possible.

Bring a bottle of water and comfortable clothes. Preferably, don’t eat anything heavy before class. If you have any serious conditions affecting your voice box, please consult your physician before signing up. You are welcome as you are, even if you’ve never sung a note in your life!

Course timetable

Classes (6 in total) are from 17.00–18.00 every Wednesday from the 6th of March to the 10th of April.

Participants will receive arrival instructions and other information via email before the course begins. The training room in Sörnäinen has an accessible entrance.

Payment, additional information and terms of cancellation

The participation fee is payable upon registering for the course in our online store.

• For members of the member associations of Citizens’ Forum, the reduced participation fee for the course is 20 euros. Be prepared to prove your membership in occasional checking.
• The Finnish National Agency for Education provides extra support for unemployed, immigrant and retired persons for participation on our courses. If you wish to make use of this benefit, the participation fee for the course is 35 euros. Provide qualifying documentation at the first course meeting. The benefit for unemployed and retired persons is obtainable for individuals with no employment income. If you are unsure of your right to this benefit, please contact the email address below before registering for the course.

Cancellation policy: You can cancel your course participation without an extra charge up to 14 days before the course begins. After this and before the first day of the course, 50 percent of the course fee will be returned. If you do not cancel and do not attend the course, the course fee will not be returned. In case of sickness, the whole course fee will be returned upon presentation of a doctor’s certificate.
