Nordic Inclusive Theatre (NIT) 2026–2027
Nordic Inclusive Theatre (NIT) is a Nordic project that develops accessible and inclusive theatre practices and strengthens the opportunities of people with disabilities to participate in theatre-making. The project will produce a practical guide for theatre and drama educators, offering concrete tools for establishing theatre groups for people with disabilities and for planning their activities.
The project is funded by the Nordplus Adult programme and includes partners from Finland, Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. The project is coordinated by the Citizens’ Forum Study Centre, and a key partner in Finland is the Finnish Amateur Theatre Association, a member organisation of Citizens’ Forum.
The project is based on a jointly identified need to increase knowledge and expertise in inclusive theatre education. Its aim is to lower the threshold for establishing new theatre groups for people with disabilities, provide support for developing existing activities, and strengthen Nordic cooperation and networking. At the same time, the project promotes participation and supports the ability of more people to be heard through theatre.
